Stepping Back to Move Forward: My September in Review

Finding Calm, Moving Forward, and Letting Go

September felt like a month of saying goodbye. Not in a dramatic way, but in a quiet, intentional one. It was about stepping back from the intensity of the summer, from the constant visibility online and from the pressure to be everywhere and share everything. I chose to live more offline, to spend time with myself, and to reconnect with what truly matters to me.

It was also about rediscovering my inner voice. After a period of ups and downs and a crisis that lingered from the summer, September became the month I focused on clarity. I decided to limit the input from others, to reduce the external noise and to allow myself to reflect without interruptions. I spent long walks in nature, did my first outdoor run (and last so far, lol), visited friends in Vienna, and allowed myself to enjoy simple joys — like quiet mornings at home, the last warmth of the summer sun and the final stages of the office renovation.

Work, Projects, and Creative Spaces

Part of my September energy went into my work. For context, I manage a creative space which includes dance studios and a photo studio. I’m taking over more responsibilities, growing the brand and managing rentals for the studios. This September, we completed a major renovation in our third dance studio, creating a calm, yoga-friendly space. It took a lot of energy, but seeing it finished by the end of the month felt amazing.

Inspirations That Shaped My Month

September also brought some unexpected inspiration. A friend told me something that really shifted my perspective: I am allowed to disappoint people. At first, that made me uncomfortable, but over time the thought of it became freeing. One of my biggest challenges has always been people pleasing, avoiding conflict, keeping others happy and not wanting to upset anyone. But I realised that life is about moving in your own way, even if it means disappointing some people. Relationships might shift, friends might change, but you know what? That’s okay. It doesn’t mean you’re doing something wrong, it means you’re evolving and your life needs to reflect that evolution.

I also read Mask of Masculinity by Lewis Howes, which opened my eyes to the pressures both men and women face to perform and wear masks in daily life. It was eye-opening and reminded me that authenticity is hard but necessary, and that understanding that the struggles of others is part of building compassion in my own life.

What I Loved, Consumed, and Tried

Music & Podcasts:

Skincare & Haircare:

  • I started using Scandinavian Biolabs shampoo, conditioner, and hair growth serum. My hair instantly felt healthier, shinier, and stronger, it even became the first thing people noticed.
  • Skin was a bit more challenging in September, showing the effects of all the changes in my life. I’m planning to focus on it more in October.

Lifestyle Shifts:

  • Sugar-free treats became a small experiment, mostly inspired by skin care concerns and tips from a friend. It’s still a work in progress, but I’ve discovered some really tasty options, here are some of my fav’s:

  • Pilates became my meditation. After years of practice, my body now knows what it needs and my mind can fully switch off during the movements. September was full of different Pilates classes that felt just so good, ugh.

Finding Calm

September was ultimately about calm. The calm of the countryside, the calm of being private and the calm of quiet reflection. It was about stepping back from constant visibility and taking the time to nurture myself. I realised that sometimes the most meaningful progress happens quietly, without announcements or social approval. Because in the middle of the calmness, this blog was born.

It was a month of learning to trust myself, to honour my needs and to accept that change is okay. Life is about growth, and sometimes growth means disappointing people or letting go of connections that no longer align with who you are becoming.

September was a month of showing up for me, of creating a home I love, focusing on my body, my work, and my inner voice. And as October rolls in, I’m taking that energy forward, continuing to embrace intentional living, calm and reflection.
